Letter from Cardinal Wilfrid Napier

cardinale-wilfrid-napierTO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

Dear Friends,

for nearly all the time that I have been a Bishop I have had the privilege and honour of meeting and getting to know a most wonderful woman, a real saint in action, Mrs Domitilla Hyams. What makes the late Domitilla even more remarkable is that she had a dream which she realised in her life time, and more remarkable still got her whole family involved in making her dream reality.

That dream took concrete form in a most amazing organisation, centre and institution called LITTLE EDEN. You have only to visit Little Eden for the briefest moment to realise how much it does, not so much by the physical nursing care that the staff invariably give, but more by the love and compassion, the selfless dedication and professional application to the task at hand.

This is probably where Domitilla proved her genius. By her own personal life and service she was able to create a unique spirit of care-giving which has to be seen to be believed.

Every visit to Little Eden has been for me a conversion experience, conversion away from simply doing a duty, conversion to doing a loving and caring service.

For these reasons I gladly support Little Eden’s mission and endorse their endeavours to enlist both psychological and material support for its continued ministry of love and care.

Given at Durban on this the 10th Day of January 2012

With prayerful good wishes and kind regards,

Wilfrid Cardinal Napier OFM
Archbishop of Durban
